It gradually took off and of course as they say, the rest is history. The sweet little 7mm-08 wasn't commercially introduced until 1980. 280 shot about the same, again with better accuracy and less powder but had a tough time ever since its introduction. Then a few years later, the 7mm Rem Mag came out and we all flocked to that thinking that obviously "bigger was better". We all liked the speed and effectiveness of the. 280 was introduced in 1957 but frankly never took off. I converted to the standard Rem 25-06 in the early 1970's and have shot out several barrels chambered in that cartridge. 257 Weatherby with better accuracy and much lower cost in powder and brass. The Neidner version shot at speeds almost identical to the. I remember lamenting that decision as I finished off my second Neidner Improved barrel. The 25-06 was widely used for nearly 50 years before Remington introduced the "simply neck sized" version in 1969. The 25-06 Neidner Improved became the most popular version of this wildcat by WWII with the advent of 4831 slow burning powder. The '06 came out in 1903 and wildcatters necked it up and down in caliber with one of the earliest being the 25-06 that became quite popular by the mid-1920's. 308 and 30-06 have had outstanding properties for efficiency and accuracy.
